American millenials and children have an exaggerated reputation for being lazy and not wanting to work. This is simply not true of most of us, but it’s also not able to be dismissed.
Lately I have seen the following phrase everywhere: “Your grandparents were called to war, you are being called to sit on the couch. You can do this!” People find it to be hilarious.
While it is our duty to stay home, I don’t find it to be funny. I find it to be frustrating.
Suddenly, we are given an exorbitant amount of time. Yes, the circumstances are grim and we can’t venture far from our houses. Regardless, shouldn’t we be teaching our youth the value of spare time instead of encouraging them to sit on the couch and watch TV? Just a thought.

I know the coiners of this phrase and the parents spreading it around do not have malicious intent. I just wanted to bring the card to the table that suggests encouraging our nation’s youth to reach a bit higher.
